Parents - Don’t be puzzled by apprenticeships

What does Jamie Oliver, George Clarke, sir Ian McKellen and Stella McCartney and many more have in common? That’s right, they all started their career as an apprentice! And your child can too…

As a parent, you want your child to get the best possible start in their career. There are many options available to young people after they leave school, and on this page, we outline information and benefits about apprenticeships as a key route into a successful career.

What's an Apprenticeship?

It’s a genuine job with training, meaning your child will earn while they learn and study towards an industry recognised qualification.

Apprenticeships provide:

  • Highly respected and relevant qualifications.

  • On-the-job experience.

  • Industry-relevant knowledge and skills.

  • Functional skills in English, maths and ICT – if required.

A Real Alternative to University

Unlike a university course, apprenticeship training is fully funded by the government and employers. This means that apprentices do not have to worry about the cost of tuition fees or student debt, whilst benefiting from training worth up to £18,000.

Some apprenticeship programmes can even lead to a degree.

  • Apprentices gain valuable work experience as well as industry recognised qualifications

  • They earn, while they learn – No tuition fees and no debt!

  • With escalla, they’ll have pastoral support, a mentor and personal development training – to help shape well rounded individuals.

Why the Tech Industry?

Tech is everywhere! Everything from your car to your fridge is powered by software and the future is already happening around us. There’s already a shortage of employees with the right digital skills and this could increase as we become ever more reliant on new tech.

There has never been a more exciting time to get into tech. Just like the internet revolutionised business and the world in the late 1990s, Artificial Intelligence is about to do the same now.
