How a Digital Support Technician Apprentice can elevate your business...

Whether you wish to empower an existing employee or bring in new skills to your business, the Digital Support Technician apprenticeship could be ideal.

DSTs are trained in providing service and support, whether this is for colleagues or for external customers. The apprenticeship provides the perfect blend of customer service, technology, and communications experience.

They are the perfect innovation bringers, being able to support the effective use of applications and communication technology and will be well-versed in coaching end-users, analysing trends and managing stakeholder relationships.

It is an incredibly flexible apprenticeship, but here are some examples of roles that would fit well:

  • Database Administrator

  • Digital Support Professional

  • Digital Applications Specialist

  • Digital Transformation Associate

The Importance of Mentors in the Journey of Apprentices: Supporting Growth and Development

At escalla, we value each and every one of our apprentices and endeavour to provide support, both professionally and personally. That's why we assign a dedicated mentor to each apprentice who trains with us, to guide them through their journey as an apprentice and beyond.

Let's take a glimpse into Joe's experience as a mentor...

"The Mentor plays a vital role in the development of an apprentice and is at the core of their accomplishments. Knowing that support is available through various channels, such as phone, email or in-person discussions during training at the Academy, can provide reassurance to apprentices when faced with challenges.

Having mentored many apprentices over the past 8 years, witnessing their growth in confidence and integration into a thriving team has been a fulfilling aspect of my role. It brings me great satisfaction to know that they have acquired new skills and qualities that can benefit their business."

National Apprenticeship Week 2023

In February, we celebrated National Apprenticeship Week. NAW is an opportunity for the education and skills sector to celebrate the achievements of apprentices around the country and the positive impact they make to communities, businesses and the wider economy.

This year’s theme was #SkillsForLife, and we were proud to showcase some of the extracurricular and pastoral opportunities we provide to our apprentices; mental health training, first aid training, money mentoring and cyber security training, to name just a few!

As part of the celebrations, we also paid a visit to one of our fantastic employers, Ablyss Systems Ltd. We interviewed some of our past and present apprentices; Ben, Federico and Dale.

Ben completed his Level 3 Infrastructure Technician apprenticeship with us 4 years ago; he has since progressed to a supervisor role within the business and supports current Level 3 Information Communication Technician IT apprentices, Federico and Dale.

We chatted with them to find out a bit more about what they do, their opinions on apprenticeships, and their best advice for aspiring tech professionals.

Thanks again to Ben, Federico and Dale for taking part and to all who joined us in celebrating #NAW2023!

Dive into Water Safety: Our Apprentices Learn Lifesaving Skills

The latest figures from The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) and The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), show that in the UK from June 2022 up until 16 August 2022 there were 50 fatalities recorded where accidental drowning is suspected

As well as being our Apprenticeship Delivery Manager, Emma is a volunteer for the Royal Life Saving Society, and spends every weekend teaching children water safety, swimming and lifesaving skills.

Her digital marketing skills are very important in her role as Secretary for Nantwich Neptune Lifesaving Club, as she runs their social media pages, and has just redesigned their website. The club is a lifesaving sports club, so the skills the children are taught are practical, will save lives, but are also tested in competitions, where speed and accuracy counts! Emma says it is great fun and extremely rewarding.

The RLSS UK have Emma on their radar, and this year she is an Ambassador for the charity and its ‘Make a Splash’ campaign. She is also featuring in their Spring magazine!

Emma runs a number of sessions for our apprentices. One is a water safety session, and the other is a life support session. Apprentices learn how to keep themselves and others safe around water, how to look after people who may have got into difficulty in the water, and how to give lifesaving CPR. Completion of the Life Support session is certificated by the RLSS UK.

During the recent water safety session at the academy, the apprentices were taught rope throwing techniques, and some managed to throw the rope 12 metres, which was fantastic!

Anyone can drown, but no one should. We believe these sessions really help to save lives.

If you want to find out more about lifesaving, and Nantwich Neptune Lifesaving Club, please visit their website or give them a follow on Facebook or Instagram @nantwichlifesavingclub.
