Wakefield Council apprentices – First to complete the Revenues and Welfare Benefits apprenticeship!

Congratulations to the apprentices at Wakefield Council who have become the first in the country to successfully complete the level 4, Revenues and Welfare Benefits apprenticeship standard.

Designed by employers, this new apprenticeship standard was launched in September 2018 and is the only one of its kind - designed specifically for Local Authority Revenues and Benefits services. It takes around 12 to 18 months to complete.

The apprentices, who joined the Council in 2018, became the first learners to enrol on the programme and the first to complete it – in only 16 months. During this time, the apprentices received hands-on experience, off-the-job training as well as formal learning through a blend of classroom based and digital learning - covering legislation, systems and personal development.

The apprentices were graded on the quality of their evidence portfolio and an end point assessment which included a project, professional discussion and presentation.

Cllr Michael Graham, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Resources, said: “Well done to Joe and Jav who have worked so hard to complete this new qualification. It’s great to see that all their efforts have paid off.”

“A big thank you to everyone involved, including our training provider, escalla, for providing first class training and support.”

Claire McLellan, director of apprenticeships at escalla, added, “It’s been a delight to work with Wakefield Council and their apprentices and we look forward to growing our partnership in future. Well done to everyone involved for making this a success.”

As a result, it is set to transform the industry by driving-up standards and developing talent for the future.
