For Apprentices and Employers

Welcome Back to the escalla Autumn Newsletter!

Welcome to the Autumn edition of our escalla newsletter.

We're excited to share with you updates and news from our escalla team, and lots of industry updates and upcoming events.

We were sad to say goodbye to Maureen, who after 30 years of supporting young people into education and training, is finally putting her feet up. We all wish her every happiness and no doubt she will be back to see us all.

We're welcoming a fresh group of cyber apprentices in the upcoming year. If you're seeking to bring a new apprentice on board or enhance the skills of your current team members, don't hesitate to reach out.

As always, any comments, suggestions, or questions, please let us know and we hope you enjoy reading the latest escalla news.

Empowering Apprentices with Our Revamped Support Programme

Our apprentices always take part in pastoral support sessions during their training weeks. These have been created to raise awareness of hot topics, develop skills in areas other than ICT and Digital Marketing, encourage discussion, and provide support for those who need it. We invite other organisations into the academy to speak to our apprentices, and we have even been out and about to visit local events.

We are very proud of our pastoral support programme, and it has just had a revamp!

Our programme goes beyond technical skills, providing apprentices with essential life skills. They receive training in mental health awareness, first aid, money management, cyber security, and more.

Saving Lives One Skill at a Time: CPR Training for Apprentices

In the last couple of months, our apprentices have completed the Royal Life Saving Society’s Life Support qualification.

This training is extremely important for our apprentices. Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces someone’s chance of survival by up to 10%. Training is the biggest factor in the likelihood of intervention - validating the need for as many people as possible to learn the simple skills needed to save a life. Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any time. In an emergency, CPR can’t wait.

Detective Constable Andrew Kevan, from the Cheshire Police Cyber Crime Team, is also running regular sessions with our apprentices. He is always keen to share his stories with us, and this really helps to bring this topic to life, and clearly demonstrate to the apprentices what risks are out there for businesses, and to them in their personal lives too. He covers the risks we are open to from social media and online scams, and talks our apprentices through the investigation process, and how the police use technology to track down and stop the cyber criminals.

Securing a Bright Future: Explore Our Cyber Security Apprenticeship Programme for 2024

Across the UK there was an estimated 2.39 million instances of cyber crime in the last year, affecting over 26% of medium businesses and 37% of large businesses. It is more important than ever to be investing in Cyber Security.

As 2024 starts to beckon, we are building more and more opportunities for businesses and apprentices alike. Due to demand, we are looking to re-start our Cyber Security programme in the New Year. If you’d like to find out more about how a cyber security apprentice could support your organisation, please feel free to contact Joe for a quick chat!

Joining Forces with Local Business Communities

We're extremely proud of our Cheshire roots and are excited to be new members of both the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and the Cheshire and Warrington Pledge Partnership. Joining these two communities gives us access to business support, promotion opportunities and local networking events. Both groups have identified a growing need for digital and STEM-related skills to help drive productivity across Cheshire - so we're a great fit! We look forward to seeing lots of local businesses at the various meetings and events.

Connecting with Aspiring Talent

The escalla apprenticeships team recently spent a day at Cheshire College South and West, promoting our apprenticeship programmes at the Crewe and Nantwich careers fair. Over 2500 students, parents, carers and teachers attended the event along with over 70 employers and organisations who were there to offer young people the right information and support to make informed career choices.  We had some great conversations with Media, IT, and Business students so we’re all ready to recruit the best candidates for your new vacancies.

We were able to catch up with some of our old friends and to network with some new potential apprenticeship employers. It was a really busy event and a great day for everyone involved.

Our next trip out will be to the Sandbach High school careers fair in December maybe we’ll see you there!
