National Apprenticeship Week 2024: Jess’s Journey from Apprentice to Digital Marketing Executive

Jess Fallon started her journey with escalla in 2019 as a Level 3 Digital Marketer apprentice at Swansway Motor Group. Swansway were looking for Digital Marketers to support its marketing efforts in car dealerships across the North West

Almost four years since Jess completed her Digital Marketing apprenticeship with a distinction, she has now progressed to the role of Digital Marketing Executive at Swansway’s head office. As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we caught up with Jess to find out more about her journey.

Hi Jess. Let’s go back to 2019. Can you tell us about what your day-to-day role as an apprentice looked like?

I worked at Stoke Audi, part of Swansway Motor Group, as a digital marketing apprentice. I was responsible for taking photos and videos of cars, updating online adverts, and creating and scheduling social media content.

What skills did you learn throughout your apprenticeship?

I learnt lots of important skills about the basics of online and offline marketing - this helped me to take a basic understanding into future roles. The apprenticeship also provided me with skills that have helped me to progress within the workplace.

That’s great! Did you do any further training after your apprenticeship? If so, what did you do?

I have completed more advanced courses in Digital Marketing, and I am now completing training in HTML.

What is your role now?

I’ve progressed to be a Digital Marketing Executive working at the head office.

How do you think the apprenticeship helped you to get where you are?

I have remained with the same business since I started my apprenticeship. The course has definitely helped me as I gained skills that I have continued to work on throughout my roles in Digital Marketing.

What attracted you to an apprenticeship?

The ability to gain a qualification and continue to learn and progress whilst being in a working environment. I thought an apprenticeship would be the perfect combination as I could continue to study whilst gaining practical experience at the same time.

Can you describe the support and guidance you received from your trainer and employer during your apprenticeship, and how it helped shape your career progression?

I gained fantastic support from Emma at escalla especially. Emma was fantastic at delivering the apprenticeship content, helping me to pass the qualification. The Marketing Team here at Swansway also massively shaped my career, they provided me with support as an apprenticeship and have allowed my career to progress with the move to the company's central marketing team.

What was the hardest thing about being an apprentice?

Combining studying with working on the job was hard, as time management had to be a priority, but it was also the most rewarding part. I was able to continue with training whilst progressing in the workplace.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship?

I would highly recommend an apprenticeship as everything you learn is valuable, you can consistently relate everything learned back to practical work. This makes for a well-rounded education and provides additional skills to be used in the workplace.

Thank you so much Jess for your inspiring insight! We love to see our apprentices go on to carve a successful career in their chosen industry. We can’t wait to see what you do next!
